The Golden Pool​

The goal was to push the boundaries of digital 2D puppeting, utilizing After Effects and the principles of figure study and traditional animation.

The designs were inspired by 14th century wooden statues.

I was fascinated by the similiarity between this ancient technique, and modern vector based practices.

Always name your layers

A single puppet was comprised of over 50 layers, and many, many transformer nulls.

World Building

To achieve the soft, melancholy feeling of the environments,

I experimented with gaussian blurs, ripples, and displacements.
